Each year, as wedding trends change, evolve and suprise, I am always excited to see which colour Pantone announces as its colour of the year. I love the art of wedding cake design, and the opportunity to create something in a bespoke icing colour inspired by the announcement is always an exciting commission.

This year, Pantone’s 2018 Colour of the Year is the dreamy Ultra Violet 18-3838, and I love it. The blue-based purple is a perfect colour to inspire a magnificent violet themed iced wedding cake, which would sit beautifully in many wider wedding themes.

Pantone says that the colour is, “complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.”

Inventive and imaginative, Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.

Pantone, 2018

A pretty colour that is symbolic of what is possible? That feels like a great beginning to planning an event to me.

What do you think of Pantone’s 2018 Colour of the Year? Do you prefer a traditional tiered wedding cake finished in white or ivory, or do you love the idea of a colourful cake?

I would love to hear you thoughts.
